History of the Institution

Kadappuram is a coastal panchayat situated in the Chavakkad Block of Chavakkad Taluk, Thrissur district. Originally, the Omanayur Panchayat comprised the areas of Kadappuram and Omanayur, which were part of the Ponnani Taluk under the Malabar District Board. In 1968, the area—geographically separated into two sections by the Connolly Canal—was administratively divided; the eastern section was designated as Omanayur Panchayat, while the western section became Kadappuram Panchayat.

The panchayat possesses a landscape ideal for tourism, featuring both beaches and backwater shores. Key tourist attractions include the Munakkakkadavu estuary and the Chettuva Lighthouse. Kadappuram Grama Panchayat is essentially a peninsula, bordered by water on three sides—Chavakkad Municipality to the north, the Chettuva estuary to the south, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the Connolly Canal to the east—with land forming the remaining boundary.

Kadappuram Panchayat boasts a coastline rich in marine resources. The fishing sector and its allied activities offer immense potential for employment. The Munakkakkadavu Harbour stands as a significant landmark in the region, and its development plays a crucial role in providing jobs to many people.
