Geography

Kadappuram Grama Panchayat is a coastal village panchayat in Thrissur district, Kerala. It comes under the jurisdiction of Chavakkad Taluk. The geographical features of the panchayat are given below:

Geographical Location

It is a coastal region situated along the Arabian Sea. Beaches and sandy stretches are its main characteristics.

  • West — Arabian Sea
  • East — Mainland/other panchayats
  • North — Ponnani region
  • South — Chavakkad region

Topography

The area consists mainly of coastal plains, sandy soil, small backwaters, and canals. Coconut groves and agricultural fields can also be seen in some parts.

Climate

The region experiences a tropical climate. Rainfall is received during both the southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon seasons. Due to the proximity to the sea, humidity is generally high.

Main Water Resources

Groundwater, wells, and small backwaters are the major water resources. Being a coastal area, some places may also experience saltwater intrusion.

Vegetation

Coconut trees, cashew trees, palm trees, and coastal plant species are widely found in the area.

Relationship Between Geography and Economy

Fishing, small-scale agriculture, and sea-related occupations are the major sources of livelihood closely connected with the geography of the region.
